Some dashcams, such as the Viofo A329T or Nextbase, are fitted with a front-facing camera (or offer this as an option). You mount this camera on the windscreen and can use it in two ways:
Front-facing: Ideal for capturing crystal-clear images of the number plates of vehicles in front of you.
Rear-facing: The camera films with a narrow field of view directly through your rear window. This means you don’t need to mount a separate camera on the rear window or run cables through the car, which makes installation a lot easier.
If you point it backwards, the view behind the car is slightly more limited than with a traditional rear-view camera due to the narrower field of view.
